Bathing of past civilisations

Embracing the therapeutic, medical and relaxation benefits of bathing.

History

Bathing was an important activity for progressive civilisations, particularly for African, Greek and Roman societies. For Egyptians personal cleanliness was sacrosanct. Egyptian baths ensured people stayed clean, happy and spiritually fulfilled. The majority of Egyptians bathed daily and believed it was necessary to satisfy the gods when they died.

The Romans too appreciated the benefits of bathing and the opportunity to socialise and build strong social communities. The Romans based some of their ideas on Greek bathing culture and took the whole bathing concept to another level. Their bathhouses where like art galleries. Roman bathers could wander about, sampling each cold, hot, tepid or steam bath. Roman baths became a prime source of entertainment and enjoyment that evolved into a way of life.

Roman public baths had a pubic sanitation system with water piped in and piped out. Baths at home were generally only big enough to sit in and they were filled with water from pottery buckets. Baths proliferated all over the Roman Empire for both military and civilian use. Many were quite ornate, with huge colonnades, decorative mosaics and pools with different water temperatures.

Health

We all understand that good mental health is essential to manage the impact of stress on our well-being. For many of us, relaxation means flopping on the couch and zoning out in front of the TV at the end of a stressful day. But this does little to reduce the damaging effects of stress.

Rather, you need to activate your body’s natural relaxation response, a state of deep rest that puts the brakes on stress, slows your breathing and heart rate, lowers your blood pressure, and brings your body and mind back into balance.

Bathing is a simple way to support a positive well-being management approach, by helping you to relax and reduce the level of stress, whilst strengthening your immune system. A strengthened immune system helps to fight off illnesses, diseases and unwanted health obstacles.

The use of warm water, or hydro therapy can support relaxation, pain relief and improved sleep habits as the heat, buoyancy and massage work together to clear your mind, reduce stress and soothe overworked muscles. Heat improves circulation and warms muscles and joints.

Our bespoke bathing systems combinations makes use of the finest components and the various hydro therapy approaches and techniques to deliver your relaxing and therapeutic body and soul spa experience.
